In preparation for your up-coming procedure, please take note of the following:

If you are opting for general anesthesia or I.V. Sedation, do not eat or drink anything 6 hours prior to your appointment and make sure you have an adult present to escort you home. (Local anesthesia has no food or water restrictions and you may leave unescorted).

You should take any prescribed medication (i.e.: blood pressure, heart) on schedule with a small sip of water, even if it is the morning of surgery. Do not take any narcotic pain medication prior to your appointment as this could cause nausea when combined with general anesthesia. Please take all your medication as normal, unless instructed otherwise during the consultation.

If you have any condition which requires pre-medication, please make arrangements for a prescription from the doctor.

Do not take any aspirin-containing products for 3 days prior to your procedure.

Do not plan any strenuous activities for 48 to 72 hours following your procedure.

Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing and a short sleeve shirt for your appointment.

Diet:  A common question is " what kind of foods should I have at home for the first few days after surgery".  We recommend cold liquid-soft foods such as ice cream, pudding, jell-o, yogurt, and supplemental nutritional drinks like carnation instant breakfast, ensure, and boost. We also recommend that you avoid warm-hot foods because they may tend to increase bleeding.
